Join us to celebrate International Day of People with Disability!

Come and celebrate with us as we share stories, films, and resources about building community connections and friendships — one person at a time.

At Hunter Circles, we believe community is for everyone.
But for many people with intellectual disability, especially people living in group homes, real connection can still be hard to find.

Research shows that when large institutions close and people move into group homes, very few, if any, build informal relationships or genuine friendships.
That’s why, when the Hunter institutions finally closed, we set up Hunter Circles — to help change that and support people to take their rightful place at the heart of community.

Over the past year, we’ve been running a project with our partners from Parramatta, Side By Side Advocacy, called Community For Everyone.
Together, we connect people with intellectual disability to their communities — because even with the NDIS, too many people remain lonely or isolated.
People might have paid support, but not real mates.
We’re working to change that — and we want to share what we’re learning.

Come along as we celebrate and share stories of people building friendship and belonging in their local communities.

🎟️ Free event – everyone welcome (only members can vote)

This event is for anyone who believes in the power of community and wants to be part of change:

• Newcastle locals

• Community organisations wanting to be more inclusive and diverse

• Team leaders working in group homes

• Disability service providers

• People with disability and their family members

🎬 What’s happening:

• Launch of two new films

• Sharing of new resources filled with practical strategies, tips, and tools on how to build community connections

• Networking and celebration with others passionate about inclusion

Our Annual General Meeting will run briefly until 4:15pm, followed by the film launches, stories, and celebrations.

We’ll finish the evening with a glass of champagne and plenty of connection.
