Understanding the Voice - Come have a yarn with First Nations Advocate Thomas Mayo and Journalist Kerry O'Brien to find out more about the Voice, why it's needed and how it'll help improve lives

Following the conversations Hunter For Yes will hit the streets letterboxing.

About our Guests:

Thomas Mayo is a Torres Strait Islander born on Larrakia Country in Darwin. An enthusiastic campaigner for YES23 and signatory to the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Kerry O'Brien is a prominent Australian journalist serving more than 30 years with the public broadcaster the ABC, host and presenter on Four Corners, Lateline and the 7:30 report.

Hunter For Yes is a community group campaigning for YES in the Hunter Electorate.

Constitutional recognition through a Voice is about two things: recognition and listening.

Recognition of the 65,000 years of shared history and continuous connection to this land by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

Listening because listening to communities leads to better policies and better outcomes.

Establishing a Voice to make sure we are listening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on issues that affect their lives.

Indigenous Australians have been consistently worse off than non-Indigenous Australians. That’s true across health, education, jobs and justice.

When governments listen to people on the ground and consult with locals, they make better decisions and achieve better outcomes.

We have everything to gain but nothing to lose by supporting recognition.

How to help out

There are a range of ways you can get involved in the Yes23 campaign in the Hunter.

Yard Sign (Corflute)

You can show your support for the campaign by putting a sign in your yard or on your fence. If you would like to put one up on your property please contact us.

Letterboxing

We have lots of materials that need to be distributed to houses in the electorate. We are asking people to walk their local suburbs and put information brochures in letterboxes. Do your street or grab a friend and walk the neighbourhood.

Every bit of help is significant and valued.
