Huon Creek Urban Landcare - Get involved & shape the group
Description
A planning meeting to get Huon Creek Urban Landcare off the ground!
A recent meeting was held with community members to discuss the potential for Landcare activities in the Huon Creek area, with particular reference to the Wodonga Retained Environment Network (WREN).
We can now share that there has been significant interest and we are now progressing to holding a planning meeting to establish an unincorporated Landcare group serving the urban area of Huon Creek (this could later be transitioned to an incorporated group if needed).
The new group will complement activities already underway in the lower reaches of the creek undertaken by Friends of David Winterbottom Park.
Our previous meeting highlighted the values of the area and some of the issues and subsequent activities that could be undertaken including planting, weeding, management of exisiting plantings, survey work, nest box installation, Gardens 4 Wildlife events etc.
This meeting we will
Confirm governance and start up arrangements
Decide on a name for the group - bring your ideas along
Decide on the footprint for groups activities
Select a Coordinator and team to support that person
Confirm a statement of purpose for the group
Be briefed on insurance, membership (personal, WULN and LVI) and next steps by the Network to support your group's start up.
Activities
Plan a social/ recruitment/ launch activity
Brainstorm activities the group would like to undertake
Suggest a modest calendar of annual activities (regular, adhoc or special activities) to focus on.
Plan a schedule of coordination meetings
The event will be held at our Office and Ecohub at Baranduda Fields. Directions on how to get to the Ecohub are here:
