Hursty Family Dance - Choose Your Own Dance Adventure!

Hursty Family Dance Club (an off-shoot of the new Hursty Dance Club) is an opportunity to have some silly, school holiday, dance fun (and pizza) with your children and friends.

Please note: These sessions have previously run as @nolightsnolycrahurstbridge events, but have developed into something bigger, and deserved a name change! They are not a NLNL 'dancing in the dark event.'

This event is a 'Choose Your Own Dance Adventure'! - Your $10 entry fee buys you entry at any point in the schedule, with the exclusion that the 8-9pm time slot is reserved for children aged 12+ (and their parents if they permit). Entry fee applies to all attendees aged 4 and up (including adults). Children 3 and under are free. Stay for as long as suits your family.

Some background and a bit about me, your host. I'm Bec and I run NLNL Hurstbridge and Hursty Dance Club. I'm also a photographer and creative sort and you'll find me online as @rebeccalandycreates I have a background in children's entertainment, and run the storytime sessions at Allwood House. I probably have ADHD and love thinking up ideas just like this dance event!

Hursty Family Dance Club has come about because I enjoy my NLNL sessions so much, and as a parent and dance enthusiast, I saw an opportunity to turn our fantastic Hurstbridge Hall into a playful dance space for families. My kids love it... so I keep doing it, and expanding on it each time.

Here's the deal: I hire the hall, order the pizza, provide my speaker, microphones, party lights, and props, chuck in a few silly ideas and suggestions... and you bring the kids, the energy, the dance moves and enthusiasm!

Together we'll be great, together we are 'Hursty Family Dance Club.'

Your Dance Adventure Options Look Like This!

Please note that participant ages specified between 4pm & 8 pm, are just a suggested guide, attend the times that suit your preferences!

Fresh pizza will be served twice, as indicated.

4-5pm – Geared towards toddler/pre-school age (lower volume)

4.00 -4.30 pm – Hold the pop – gentle, fun kids music (e.g Justine Clarke)

4.30 -5.00 pm – Movie magic – popular soundtracks (e.g Frozen, Moana, Encanto)

You might like to dress up as your favourite characters for this session (we will). Props and activities will also be available – scarves, shakers, parent led limbo pole.

5-6pm – Transition into next age group – suited to both age groups

5pm – Pretend 'end' ten minutes of lights on to con the little kids, and allow you an opportunity to leave if you prefer! Simple party bags are available, to assist with the early departure, Must be requested when booking.

5.10pm – Party style dance games - non-competitive

5.30pm – PIZZA served (along with general dancing music)

6-8pm – Geared towards primary school aged children

6.00 -7.00 pm – Request fest, karaoke and performance opportunity - music made up completely of requests from attendees (you'll be invited to pop your song request in the lucky dip). Want to sing along? Microphones will be available! You've perfected a dance at home and need a bigger audience? Let me know before hand and you can perform it on stage (or we'll clear a space on the dance floor if preferred).

7.00 -7.45pm – 70's, 80's,90’s pop family fun - family friendly music that parents enjoy, so that they can bust out their best moves. And the microphone will still be available if the mood takes you!

7.45pm – PIZZA served (along with general dancing music)

8-9pm – Top 40 - 12+ only

We're trying to create an older vibe for this time slot, however you may choose to book for children aged 10-12 years. However if you would like to enquire about younger children sticking around to dance, please send an email to hurstydanceclub@gmail.com before booking.

This time is set aside for the older children only. Offering an alternative to a Blue Light Disco, with a more personal experience for groups of friends to hang out and enjoy music. (Also a welcoming space for older children who want to dance with their carers or parents). The music may be louder and may include some mild, explicit language, if a cleaner radio-edit version is not available. A pre-prepared playlist of top 40 songs will be playing, but can be tweaked if participants have requests. Microphones and ribbon twirlers (they're surprisingly fun) will also be available.

Two adults with WWC checks are available to supervise, so you are welcome to drop and go, take a seat in the foyer, or dance yourself, if your child doesn't mind! There is no need to purchase yourself a ticket if you are just hanging out in the foyer, but if you come earlier for pizza, or dance yourself, please do purchase one.

Also nice to know:

Music will be kept to a safe level, and will be on a lower volume for the 4-5pm time slot

If you think your child is sensitive to noisy environments, you may like to bring hearing protection

This is a stimulating environment, with moving party lights, please consider if this is suitable for your children

A chill out book zone will be set up in the foyer

Dressing up is always a good idea, I will!

Pass outs available, especially if you wish to take younger children home and return for the 8-9pm time slot

Please BYO non-alcoholic drinks/drink bottles, no drinks will be served.

You will be able to access the kitchen to re-fill drink bottles

You're welcome to bring in additional food

When booking you can indicate your preference for Hawaiian or Margherita pizza. Dairy and gluten free also catered for. If your dietary needs are more complex I may not be able to cater for them, however I will email you to discuss the options if you request this,

You remain responsible for the safety of your children, please supervise them at all times (with the exception of the 8-9pm time slot). You can help the event run smoothly by ensuring the following:

Minimise running through the hall (I understand that there can be a fine line when enjoying music and dancing, but please stop any extreme running and chasing).

Keep your children off the stage at all times, unless you have pre-arranged a dance performance

Please advise me of any drink spills/hazards/damaged props

Do not use the exit door near the stage to leave, as it opens straight onto the carpark

Accompany your children to the toilet

Please use the foyer to enter, exit and have some chill out time, otherwise please discourage children moving in and out of this space

If anything at all concerns you during the session, please advise so that I may address it
