Inspired by true events, this powerful drama stars Academy Award® nominees Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter alongside three-time Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep. Set in London across the late 19th and early 20th century, the film follows working-class factory worker Maud (Carey Mulligan), newly recruited into the U.K.'s growing Suffragette movement despite her husband's disapproval. Galvanised by outlaw fugitive Emmeline (Meryl Streep), Maud is drawn into the movement's underground workings as it shifts from peaceful protest to more radical demonstrations, joining women from all walks of life who sacrificed their jobs, homes, children, and even their lives, for the right to vote. As government pressure mounts on police to increase surveillance and punishment of the Suffragettes, Maud's faith in the cause is tested to the limits in this breathtaking fictionalisation of true events that changed the course of history.
