Hyperfocus Masterclass with Cris Edwards
Build Your Own Sound Machine
Level up in this masterclass, where you will learn to how to turn microcontrollers, buttons, knobs and switches into your very own MIDI controller or sound machine.
For creatives seeking a skill boost or curious about how things work, this masterclass digs into the nitty-gritty of Cris’s practice. Cris will bring you into the inner workings of her interactive installations and share techniques for introducing a sense of play into electronics.
During this interactive session, you will learn how circuit boards and coding is configured to produce incredible sounds. Cris will walk you through the operations of a variety of instruments made from old payphones, gamer controllers and chess boards. Then you’ll have an opportunity to create, code and customise your very own sound machine from buttons, knobs, alligator clips, aluminium foil and cardboard.
This activity involves coding and circuitry. We recommend you have a basic understanding of electronics and synthesisers prior to the session. You’ll be working with tools including screw drivers, wire strippers and clamps.
