Event description

India’s national Hindi Divas falls on the 14th of September every year. Hindi was adopted as the official language of India by the Indian Constituent Assembly on September 14, 1949. People all over India and the world celebrate this day with a tribute to a language which is one of the most spoken languages in the world.

The IABBV Hindi School “Vimla Luthra Memorial” Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition for K-12 continues to be held annually as part of the IABBV Hindi School Hindi Divas celebration. This provides an opportunity to students across all Hindi schools to participate in the Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition and develop not just an interest in Hindi Poetry but also to learn more about the renowned Indian Poets and a bit about Hindi literature. Students are also encouraged to write their own poems.

This competition continues to be supported by the Luthra Family – Rajan, Mala, Pawan & Rajni Luthra - in memory of their mother Mrs Vimla Luthra who was a great supporter of “Hindi” and the IABBV Hindi School. A well-loved community figure, Aunty Vimla became a poet late in her life, producing two books and regaling audiences with her recitations. It was one of several new endeavours that she took up and mastered in the twilight of her life. IABBV is grateful to her and the Luthra Family for encouraging our students and honoring their mother in such a special way.

The winners of the competition will be invited to recite their poems at the f2f Hindi Divas celebration to be held from 09:45am to 2:00pm on Sun 07 September 2025 at Thornleigh West Public School Community Hall, Giblet Avenue Thornleigh NSW 2120. All other participants will also receive certificates and a voucher which will be sent out to them after the event.
