IAVS Shut Up and Write Sessions
Event description
IAVS is now running regular Shut Up and Write! (SUAW) sessions every Monday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm ACDT (Adelaide, Australia time). These sessions are open to all IAVS members.Â
What is Shut Up and Write!? A SUAW is simply a space where people come together to write - the idea being that the act of writing is often easier and more enjoyable when silently working alongside others. At IAVS, our sessions will take place over Teams, and will begin with a brief chat (only 5-10 minutes) about what we're all working on. Afterwards, the SUAW begins in earnest, and we'll all mute our microphones whilst silently working on our own projects for two hours. Once the SUAW concludes, you're very welcome to stick around as long as you like to share how you went and chat with the others :) We've found that SUAWs can be really helpful for researchers in particular, both because lots of work tends to get done, but also because these meetings build community with peers you may otherwise not have the chance to see. You can find out more about Shut Up and Write! here: https://www.shutupwrite.com/ Some basic guidelines for IAVS-SUAW
- Come with an idea about what you'll be working on during the two hours
- Camera on - embrace the peer pressure
- No talking during the SUAW
Optional guidelines you might find helpful
- Make sure you’re actually writing: no planning writing, no editing, no polishing
- Shite words encouraged: getting words on the page helps progress writing faster - you can edit later
If you'd like to join our SUAW you can register here for free - you will receive a teams link at least 1 hour before each meeting. [note: please don't add this humanitix event straight to your calendar as we have set this event to be open for the next year :) you will receive a calendar link via email]
Looking forward to seeing you there :)
