Identification, Assessment and Intervention of Dyspraxia

Description: Praxis is an important building block to academic, athletic and social-emotional proficiency. This 3-day online workshop will include the theory of different sub-categories of Dyspraxia and explain the background in the nervous system. Multiple techniques and interventions (top down and bottom up) will be shared in order to plan intervention. The second day will cover in-depth information on assessment and clinical observations following the three-phase system of Maude’s own Developmental Pathways Model (DPM). Therapy ideas are discussed throughout the workshop and with special emphasis on the third day. Learning Objectives:

• Define at least 3 different sub categories of Dyspraxia and components thereof
• Discuss at least 10 different techniques for intervention for each of 2 sub categories overlapping into third sub category
• Consider the impact of Dyspraxia on developing learning, reading and writing skill
• View 3 phases of assessment to evaluate the developmental trajectory in Dyspraxia
• Create a portfolio of activities that will support the developmental trajectory of Dyspraxia and can be used at school, at the clinic and used to design home programs

Presenter: Maude Le Roux OTR/L, IMC, SIPT, CTC, DIR-FT Expert Trainer

Maude Le Roux is an occupational therapist with an extensive following of professionals across the globe. She was due to return to Australia for a 4th visit in 2020. She studies human development in different capacities of growth; spanning ages and stages, neuroanatomy, assessment tools as well as current trends of intervention. She completed the SIPT training in 2002 and Sensory Integration forms the foundation from which she continues to develop different tracks of assessment and intervention. Maude is certified in multiple different techniques that she applies uniquely through her Developmental Pathways Model (DPM). She owns and directs a clinical practice in Glen Mills, PA, where she has a team of dedicated professionals, many of whom had been with her over 10 years as well as being with her since inception of her practice in 2001. Her requirement for practice is a warm, embracing atmosphere operated through clinical expertise and professionalism that will provide quality of care to all entering her practice. She gives back to her community by serving on different boards and currently serves on the Board of Directors for ATTACh, a national organization dedicated to serve families and children with attachment related difficulties and trauma informed care. Maude Co-authored “The Listening Journey” with Francoise Nicoloff . She co-authored her second book “Our Greatest Allies” in 2011 with Lauren O’Malley describing the journey of one autistic child.

It was a great pleasure to gain the knowledge of our lecturer Maude Le Roux. Participating in the course gave me a general view of Dyspraxia and holistic view to the speech and language disorders and to learning difficulties as well.  I work in the Day Center with children who have ASD and other developmental disorders, communication and praxis difficulties. Also, I work at school with children who experience learning difficulties. Sometimes I feel that the deeper reasons should be considered to help the children and the essence of the problem is not revealed.
