Event description

The yellow hues of the deciduous red and white cedars delight us in Autumn. The new red leaves of the red cedars across the landscape herald the arrival of spring. These magnificent and much valued trees are in the family of Meliacace, and share many common features in their leaves and flowers.

Join Hilary Pearl and Rowena Thomas at the Barung Nursery for a two-hour workshop learning the Meliaceae species of our local Blackall Range forests, plus some others you may encounter across the broader Sunshine Coast. Distinguishing them from each other, and their doppelgangers can be tricky. With our tips and strategies, and after our walk in the Barung Seed Forest, we plan for you to leave the workshop well on the way to becoming a Meliaceae  expert.

We recommend you bring a pen, a torch (or a phone with a torch), and your own eye lens if you have one. Magnifying lenses and eye lenses will be available to use, and worksheets will be supplied as we delve deep into this group of wonderful and charismatic trees.

Participation is limited to 15 places so please book in to attend!
