Identifying Rainforest Plants of the Blackall Range: the Lillypillies
Event description
The pink and red new leaves, the glossy dark foliage, and the profuse flowering are all part of what makes lillypillies a much loved part of our gardens and regeneration areas. As an added bonus, some of the acidic and colourful fruits are tasty to nibble on evening strolls. These much valued trees are in the family of Myrtaceae, and share many common features in their leaves and flowers. The lillypillies are grouped in the genera of Acmena, or Syzygium – what makes them different?
Join Hilary Pearl and Rowena Thomas at the Barung Nursery for a two-hour workshop learning the lillypilly species of our local Blackall Range forests, plus some others you may encounter across the broader Sunshine Coast. We recommend you bring a pen, a torch (or a phone with a torch), and your own eye lens if you have one. Magnifying lenses and eye lenses will be available to use, and worksheets will be supplied as we delve deep into this group of oil-dot rich trees.
Participation is limited to 15 places so please book in to attend!
