Description

Why be a vine? On the Blackall Range we have over 100 species of vines and climbers. Clearly this growth form offers many opportunities. In this workshop we will explore the ecological role of vines, and the advantages and disadvantages of being a vine. We will learn prominent identifying features, and will examine and handle 14 local vine species. As our revegetation areas progress, vines, even native vines, can be invasive and problematic. What is the current research showing on how to handle these vigorous native climbers?

Join Hilary Pearl and Rowena Thomas at the Barung Nursery for a two-hour workshop learning key vine families and species of our forests. We recommend you bring a pen, a torch (or a phone with a torch), and your own hand lens if you have one. Magnifying lenses and hand lenses will be available to use, and worksheets will be supplied. Come and join us for some vine exploration. 🌱

By supplying locally sourced native plants through our well established native nursery, connecting people through our diverse education and engagement programs, and providing essential bush regeneration services to protect and regenerate our landscape, Barung Landcare is dedicated to working for our future.
