What is Iftaar?
Following the sunset and Maghrib (prayer), observing Muslims eat a meal called iftar to break the daily fast during the lunar month of Ramadan. Traditionally, the fast is initially broken with dates and water, followed by a larger, communal meal that brings friends and family together to celebrate the day's fast.
The fast itself is considered a purification to cleanse mind, body, and soul. Feeding a fasting person is believed to come with great reward from God and therefore many individuals, organisations, mosques, and community centres will offer an Iftar gathering in which the breaking of the fast is celebrated.
Who is welcome?
This event is open to everyone including, members of the PCWA, their families, and the wider community to connect with fellow attendees, strengthen friendships, and build new ones in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Whether you are fasting or simply wish to experience the beauty of Ramadan, we welcome you to join us for an evening of faith, food, and fellowship.
If it's your first Iftaar as a non-Muslim, be assured that you are especially welcome and your attendance is considered a blessing and an honor.
What should I wear?
We invite you to join us in modest and respectful attire, honouring the beauty and sanctity of this holy month.
Can I bring my children?
Absolutely! Families are warmly welcomed. Just make sure you keep your children within your sight.
Will there be prayer facilities?
Yes, separate prayer areas for men and women will be available. Maghrib prayers will be held shortly after breaking the fast with a Dates and Drinks service.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
We strive to accommodate all dietary needs. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions you have and we will endeavour to ensure there are suitable options for you.
What time should I arrive?
We recommend arriving by 6:00 pm to settle in.
Can I invite friends who are not members of PCWA?
Of course! This event is open to the entire community. Feel free to bring friends, neighbours, or colleagues who would like to experience the warmth of Ramadan with us.
Will there be parking available?
Yes, free parking will be available at the Cannington Leisureplex.
What should I bring?
Just bring yourself and your loved ones! If you will be precipitating in prayers, you're encouraged to bring your own prayer mat and leave it in the designated prayer rooms. Everything else, including the meals, prayer facilities, and a welcoming atmosphere, will be provided.
What if I’m not fasting? Can I still attend?
Absolutely! Everyone is welcome, whether you’re fasting or not. This is a time for community, reflection, and togetherness, and we’d love to have you join us.
