Event description

Dr Sonu Menachem Maimonides Bhaskar (Dr Med., MD, PhD) in conversation with Dr. Ole Doering (Dr Phil., Habil. Phil)

Date: July 10, 2021 (Saturday)

Time: 12 – 1:30 PM Berlin / 8 – 9:30 PM Sydney

Global Health Hub Germany’s Working Group on Ethics invite thinkers in Global Health to this panel discussion, connecting Global North and South, Medicine and Humanities. to discuss burning issues during and beyond COVID-19 in global health poignant to medicine and our society!

How can humanities and medicine inspire each other, to define a new spirit of global commitment to health, to fuel and sustain responsibility, solidarity, and justice for all?

Global Health narratives maintain a self-sustaining bias perpetuating the weakness and dependency of the Global South and the capability and entitlement of the Global North. A lack of critical self-reflection and respect on the side of the latter warrant attention and is a part of the problem. Challenges to health equity and quality exist in all societies, while interventions developed in the global north, albeit intended to mitigate may be counter-productive or worse exacerbate local or indigenous interventions emanating from grassroots participation. We will discuss conceptual ideas and the need to reform our Global Health mindset.

We will highlight what may be needed and initiate dialogues to facilitate open discussion and foster collaboration.

This event is organised by the Global Health Hub Germany's Working Group on Ethics and Reprogram Global. Please register to attend the event. Details on the online Zoom meeting will be sent on registration.
