Illawarra Folk Club presents Shortis and Simpson in Cabaret Politico
Event description
Canberra’s leading satirists
SHORTIS AND SIMPSON
in
CABARET POLITICO
A witty, irreverent and hilarious look at the politics of recent times
Since 1996, Shortis and Simpson have been delighting Canberra audiences with their unique mix of original songs, parodies of well-known ditties, and comedy monologues, going straight to the foibles and the follies of our political leaders and the havoc they have wrought.
For the first time they are bringing their satire to Wollongong in Cabaret Politico, looking back at some of the memorable debacles of 2024, but also reminding you of others that you may prefer to forget.
John Shortis’s clever and inventive songwriting combined with Moya Simpson’s ability to leap octaves and switch characters adds up to a night of side-splitting laughter and poignancy, as they present an insightful summing-up of the politics of recent times.
A combination of brand new up-to-date material and some of their gems from nearly 30 years of satire. Humorous, thought-provoking, surprising, witty- don’t miss Cabaret Politico.
‘John Shortis’s biting satirical songwriting….Moya Simpson, the chameleon chanteuse….humour, wit and satirical savagery…’ Canberra Times
THIS IS A SHOW NOT TO MISS!! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!
And a special bonus to keep you immersed in the scene, they will be supported by Stuart and Kylie.
Stuart Alexander and his ever-reliable partner in crime, Kylie Pickford, have been part of the Wollongong music scene since the 80’s. They have recorded two albums of songs inspired by domestic disputes, trains, horses, unreliable vehicles, unreliable people, armed standoffs and romance. Don’t miss ‘em!
Stuart is also one of the World's Great Lovers and has written one of the world’s best love songs. His love, however, is for the infamous Datsun 180B
What a great night!!
