Event description

Sending someone a letter? Why not make it a stunning 3D folded letter! Impressive even with simple household materials!

In this art class, Emilie will teach you how to create fun secret letters with surprisingly easy folding techniques. Learn how to make Infinity Folding Cards and Victorian Puzzle Purses.

Emilie will not only guide you through the steps to fold out your cards, but we’ll work on the different planes and surfaces of the letters to tell stories, and discover ways to illustrate and decorate it without any fancy drawing skills.

Bring some third dimension to your paper creation!

What will we cover?

Emilie will cover step by step instructions on folding your paper into the Infinity Folding Card and Victorian Puzzle Purse style.

Then in unfolding the letter, all the different surfaces and how the combine becomes clearer, so you can design and decorate your letter flat and see it come together and align when reassembled.

Emilie will present the world of folding paper and talk about origamis, zines, and other folding creative projects!

No experience necessary, and no special materials. Household art supplies are fine!

What will you need?

  • Paper (anything you have. Thicker paper can be trickier to fold, but the colour less likely to bleed through)
  • Scissors
  • Any sort of coloured art materials you have - textas, pencils, crayons, watercolour, paper collage...
  • Optional: White gelly roll pen (such as Sakura Gelly roll) Black waterproof fineliner (such as UniPin or Sakura Micron). These are both good for writing over paint, watercolours etc.
  • Optional: Ruler to help with strong folds
  • If you speed through the Victorian-style letter, you can try a special concertina letter too!
