Event description

IMAGINATIVE PLAY TO DRAWING...

Pirates, Cowboys and Aliens

A creative, immersive workshop for children and adults

When: 2 August 2025
Duration: 3 hours
Location: LJ Projects Studio (1 Amaroo Avenue, Nambour, 4560)
For: Children aged 6–12 and their parents, grandparents or carers

This workshop is specifically designed for intergenerational participation—where adults and children come together to play, create, and connect. It is ideal for grandparents, parents, carers, and children aged 6–12 who are eager to rediscover the joy of imaginative play side by side. At the heart of this experience is a belief that creativity flourishes when generations collaborate. We don’t divide into age groups—we play together, create together, and learn from one another. This shared space fosters deep connection, empathy, and joyful storytelling, reminding us that imagination knows no age limit.

This is a joyful, hands-on morning aims at reigniting the playful spirit that lives within us all. Whether you’re a grandparent, parent, or child aged 6–12, Imaginative Play to Drawing... invites you into a magical, immersive space where stories are shared, characters are born, and creativity becomes a bridge across generations.

Before bringing their lively performance Pirates, Cowboys and Aliens to the Black Box Theatre stage in Nambour, hosted by D.I.V.E. Theatre Collective, Perseverance Street Theatre is touring communities to co-create visual artworks that will feature in the final live show.

Join us for a dynamic drama and visual art workshop featuring:

  • Pirate dress-ups, dance & mystery games

  • Cowboy story circles & Western scene-making

  • Alien creature design & fashion parade

  • Reflection time with drawing to create your own art

Artworks will be scanned and featured in a live theatre performance!

Why Play Matters?

  • Creative play isn’t just fun—it’s vital for wellbeing.

  • Research shows it builds empathy, emotional expression, and resilience (Stuckey & Nobel, 2010).

  • It enhances social connection and intergenerational understanding (Cohen, 2006; Russ, 2003).

  • It reduces stress and sparks lifelong joy.

Together, we’ll explore the powerful connection between art, memory, and wellbeing—and create something truly special along the way.

Imaginative Play to Drawing... is facilitated by Dr. Sharon Hogan, CEO and Artistic Director of Perseverance Street Theatre Company. With over 20 years of experience as a director, drama educator, and community artist, Sharon brings warmth, humour and insight to every workshop. Her productions have been presented by Queensland Theatre, QPAC, Zen Zen Zo and more.
