Event description

As the wheel turns once more, we enter Guling, the Wurundjeri Season of Orchids. The silver wattles are bursting into bloom, the nights echo with the bellow of koalas, and the first breath of spring stirs gently beneath the soil.
In the ancient Celtic calendar it is Imbolc, the early spring fire festival that marks the quickening of the earth and the return of light.

Imbolc stems from Neolithic Ireland and Scotland, celebrating the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox.  It is a celebration of light and the first spark of spring; a whisper of warmer weather and an ember of hope in the darkness of winter. It beckons us to witness the tender shoots pushing through the soil, mirroring the inner awakening that unfolds within ourselves. As nature readies itself for renewal, so too do we prepare to embrace the burgeoning light within.

This seasonal threshold is a time to honour Brigid, goddess of sacred wells, smithing, fire, healing, poetry, and renewal. She is seen as the maiden element in the land awakening, and the mature mother welcoming all those who need a hearth.

As part of our celebration, we will weave Brigid’s Crosses, a traditional Imbolc craft made from rushes or straw. These sacred symbols were historically hung in homes to invoke Brigid’s protection, blessing, and healing through the year ahead. The act of weaving is meditative, fun and a great way to herald the return of spring.

We will return to our beautiful pop-up temple space in Eltham for this afternoon ritual, perfect for those who’d like to be home in time for dinner.

This stunning mud-brick home and bush garden offers a meandering path, sacred spaces, and even a dipping pool (if the weather is warm, feel free to bring your bathers and we may get to have a plunge).
This is also a wonderful opportunity for those based in the eastern suburbs to easily access this Goddess event grounded by the Gaia Temple with Priestesses with decades of seasonal Goddess knowledge.

Bring:
– An object for the altar (flowers, herbs, spring symbols, or an offering to Brigid)
– Something nourishing to share for afternoon tea (optional)
