Immaterial: Cinémathèque
Event description
Over the past four months, our night-time program Immaterial has centered around digital arts that celebrate the often overlooked and underrepresented work of digital artists.
In this final night of Immaterial - Cinémathèque, join guest programmer Sivani Yaddanapudi for a night of cinema, as we celebrate all things screen.
Watch short films from Western Sydney filmmakers, get a portrait photo professionally taken, experiment with cameras, and network with fellow creatives at our final Immaterial event!
Note: This is a safe space for you to experiment with your lens-based artforms. BYO cameras to test out on the night! Photographers and filmmakers will be around to guide you.
Event Program:
Interactive Engagements
Jane Fan: Cybermancy 2 | 4 - 8pm
Get a digital fortune reading with Jane Fan’s creative coded work Cybermancy 2. Cybermancy 2 is an interactive webcam experience based on Chinese face reading, an ancient fortune telling practice that predicts a person’s personality and fortune based on their facial features.
Leave a Message After the Beep | 4 - 8pm
A mini art installation bringing stories of friendship, love, family and identity. Audiences are invited to record a voicemail/voice note from a question they pull out from a bowl, anonymously sharing a story from Western Sydney.
Workshops and Hands On Activities
Portraits | 4 - 8pm
Get a portrait photo taken in this short photography activity - a fun and creative way to explore portraiture while honing your skills behind the camera. Audiences are invited to capture their own portrait with the help of photographer Saarah Hanif. An image will be printed on the day for you to take home.
Double Exposure Polaroids | 4 - 8pm
Join artist M.Sunflower as she teaches you how to double expose your polaroid films. Take your analog photography to a new level in this hands-on workshop.
BYO polaroid cameras if you’d like to test on your own equipment. Instax type polaroids are preferred.
Editing Station | 4 - 8pm
Will you make the cut? Join filmmaker Addy Fong in a hands-on editing workshop where you can experiment with assembling clips to assist with the art of telling stories. Experiment with mixed media editing while the editor is in!
Cyanotype Tote Bags | 4 - 8pm
Use UV light to print a photo still or phrase onto a free tote bag! Limited stock of totes available.
