Thu, 30 Oct, 10am - 3pm AEDT

Event description

The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success (ACSES) is delivering a workshop in Canberra on Thursday 30 October, hosted by the Inclusive and Respectful Communities team at the Australian National University. In this workshop, Dr Patricia Vermillion Peirce (Trials Lead) will facilitate a discussion with equity practitioners, learning about the equity practices currently underway, and identifying programs that may benefit from different types of impact evaluation approaches.

To explore the potential opportunity to undertake an impact evaluation, ACSES will also workshop aspects relevant to undertake different types of impact evaluations. This will include considering quantitative impact evaluations (QIE) and theory-based impact evaluations (TBIE) in relation to:

  • the initiative 'evaluability', enabling practitioners to determine if their initiative is ready for an impact evaluation;

  • the different questions that the different impact evaluation approaches can (and cannot) answer, so practitioners can determine the relevance and need for specific methods and tools;

  • the common beliefs (and misbeliefs), enabling practitioners to consider fully the evaluation options available to them; and

  • the requirements to undertake the impact evaluation, so practitioners can determine the feasibility of different approaches for their context.

We will provide examples of impact evaluations of equity and/or education programs, demonstrating how impact evaluations have been done in similar contexts.

The workshop will also be an opportunity to engage with the wider Trials and Evaluation team at ACSES, share current experiences and find out how the team might be able to help you, and connect with practitioners from other Canberra universities.

A light lunch will be provided. Please advise any dietary requirements in your RSVP.
