Overview

This lunch and learn style webinar provides financial advisers and planners with an overview of impact investing in Australia. It covers key definitions, the impact investing landscape in both Australia and globally, as well as some of the key considerations that financial advisers and planners need to be aware of when advising client on impact investment opportunities.  

This activity has been accredited for continuing professional development by the Financial Advice Association of Australia but does not constitute FAAA’s endorsement of the activity. Accreditation number 013588 for 1 hour.

Learning Outcomes

Learn about impact investing and what it means for your clients. This course will provide you with:

  • An understanding of what impact investing is and how it differs from other forms of investing;
  • An overview of key impact investment considerations for financial planners and advisers when advising clients, including the opportunities and risks;
  • Perspectives on the legal landscape relevant to planners and advisers;
  • Next steps for planners and advisers looking to learn more about impact investing.

Geoff Briggs | Professional Impact Network Member at Social Impact Hub & Ex-Head of Advice at MLC Australia

Geoff is an experienced corporate business leader and consultant to smaller growing organisations. Having spent more than 20 years in the for-profit sector growing shareholder value for multiple businesses, Geoff has spent the last 5 years leveraging these skills to grow and scale 'for purpose' organisations along with their impact. With experience across Financial Services, Business Development and Digital, Geoff loves to operationalise strategy, optimise impact and help passionate for-purpose entrepreneurs create sustainable growing businesses. Geoff also contributes to the Social Impact Hub through his work as an Enterprise Development Manager. Here Geoff is responsible for working with Funders and our Professional Impact Network (PIN) to deliver tailored advisory services to multiple Social Enterprises to ready them for their next level of growth or capital raising.


Dan Simpson | Head of Portfolio Management and Impact Investment at ANZ Private Bank

Dan Simpson is Head of Portfolio Management and Impact Investment at ANZ Private Bank, where he is responsible for our diversified portfolios and the Impact Investment Program. Dan joined ANZ in November 2019 with over 20 years of investment experience in Australia and abroad. His career has included a 14 year stint at Willis Towers Watson where he led the Sydney Investment Advisory team. He has advised institutional funds on all aspects of investing, including governance, strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction and sustainable investing. Dan has a particular passion for building impact investment portfolios for his clients, which allow them to meet their investment objectives whilst funding initiatives that benefit society and the environment.

Dan completed the UNPRI Academy Foundations in Responsible Investing program in 2020, is a CFA Charterholder, and has a B.A. in Economics and History from Otago University, NZ.


Kathryn Fitch-Daniels | Certified Financial Planner at EthInvest

Kathryn is a financial adviser with almost 20 years of experience in the financial planning industry. She joined Ethinvest in 2021 and has been a Certified Financial Planner since 2008 and RIAA Certified since 2023.

Throughout her financial planning career exclusively in boutique practices, Kathryn has always worked in the comprehensive advice space, with extensive experience managing SMSFs & other entities as well as a wide range of strategies for individuals. She is passionate about clients achieving their financial goals through ethically constructed portfolios so that they can build wealth that also aligns with their values.

Kathryn has a Bachelor of Commerce and Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning, both through Western Sydney University. She is a member of the Ethical Advisers Co-op, The Financial Advice Association Australia and the Responsible Investment Association Australasia.

Rob Haggett | Head of Mobilising Capital at Social Impact Hub

Rob Haggett is the Head of Mobilising Capital at the Social Impact Hub and leads Impact Investing Hub. He has worked on projects with Westpac Foundation, Paul Ramsay Foundation, MinterEllison and Impact Investing Australia as well as managing the NSW Department of Communities and Justice's Social Sector Transformation Fund (SSTF). Rob previously worked in international development, specialising in responsible finance and measurement initiatives in Nepal, Indonesia and Cambodia as well as co-leading Deloitte's Social Impact Consulting team in Australia. He has sat on a number of boards and advisory groups and was previously CEO of Pocket City Farms, a social enterprise focused on sustainability and regenerative agriculture.

Jessica Mendoza-Roth | Founder & CEO at Social Impact Hub

Jessica is the Founder and CEO of the Social Impact Hub. The Social Impact Hub advises, educates, collaborates and mobilises capital for impact. Jessica is also a consultant to the impact investment sector, having served as the Impact Strategist for Blue River Group, an independent impact investment services firm, and opened the Sydney office of Impact Investment Group. Previously, Jessica was a Solicitor at King & Wood Mallesons in Sydney. She holds a B.A. and LL.B. (with First Class Honours) from UNSW and a LL.M. from Harvard Law School, where she was the recipient of the R.G. Menzies Scholarship to Harvard, and she studied social entrepreneurship, philanthropy and impact investing.
