Recasting the role of the Productivity Commission? A discussion on Indigenous policy and evaluation
Event description
The Australian Productivity Commission’s program of work on better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is an example of a broader commitment to engaging with different knowledges when it comes to policy design, implementation and change.
The appointment of the first Indigenous Commissioner, Romlie Mokak, has led the Commission on a journey of internal and external examination of how organisations, institutions, and in turn policy, might centre on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their knowledges.
The Commission’s commitment speaks to broader research conducted by the Centre for Social Impact on the changing role of the Commission in policy and society.
In this impact2021 webinar, hear from our panellists on approaches and strategies to improve outcomes for Indigenous peoples, and explore:
- The Australian and New Zealand Productivity Commissions approaches to their work
- Indigenous organisations as equal partners in policy making
- How does one bring Indigenous knowledges to bare on policy to sit alongside an economic lens?
- How do institutions change over time?

- Romlie Mokak: Commissioner, Australian Productivity Commission
- Dr Ganesh Nana: Chair, New Zealand Productivity Commission
- Craig Ritchie: CEO, Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies
