Join expert teacher and presenter, Suzanne Garvey, as she outlines the key features of the new 7–10 Mathematics Curriculum in Queensland and shares a range of practical strategies and resources designed to help set your students up for success in secondary mathematics!
This session will include:
- a concise overview of the key changes to the structure and content of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics 9.0 Years 7–10
- practical tips and advice for planning and implementing the new curriculum successfully
- a range of strategies for addressing gaps in student knowledge, correcting common misconceptions, reducing maths anxiety, and offering personalised learning pathways for each student in mixed-ability classrooms
- a demonstration of the features and digital resources offered in Oxford’s brand-new series – Oxford Maths 7–10 Australian Curriculum (including a range of fully integrated STEAM projects at each year level that enable consistent, hassle-free, cross-curricular learning across maths, science and HASS).

Meet the author and presenter
Suzanne Garvey
Senior Mathematics Teacher and Pedagogy Coach, Hymba Yumba Independent School, Brisbane
Suzanne’s career as a mathematics educator spans more than 40 years, during which she has worked in a wide variety of schools in Victoria and Queensland, and as a Principal Education Officer with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).
Suzanne’s many years of experience as a classroom teacher, Curriculum Leader, Head of Department, Year Level Coordinator, and Pedagogy Coach, together with the expert curriculum and pedagogical knowledge she developed while working at the QCAA on the General Mathematics General Senior Syllabus (2019) make her uniquely qualified to provide teachers and students with practical support and advice when transitioning to the new Australian Curriculum 9.0.
In addition to these skills and experience, Suzanne is also a regular presenter for the Queensland Association of Mathematics Teachers (QAMT), the Queensland Education Leadership Institute (QELi) and the Science of Teaching and Learning Australia conferences (SoTLA) on topics such as assessment, collaborative problem-solving and in the middle-years, and success in senior years.
In 2023, Suzanne accepted a position as Senior Mathematics Teacher and Pedagogy Coach at Hymba Yumba Independent School in Springfield; an innovative school committed to the traditions of Indigenous culture, spirituality and identity.
