Improv to feel more alive, confident and playful: day workshop in Leeds
Event description
This one-day improvisation workshop is for beginners and enthusiasts alike. You’ll learn what you wish you’d known about improv from day one. It’s a (re)introduction to play and connection for grown-ups.
I didn’t sleep for a whole week when I first tried improv. I felt SO ALIVE, yet huge pressure to perform and do it right. I was in love yet scared, self-conscious and judgemental - lacking support, care or space to reflect on this life-changing experience.
So I created this workshop to be the gentle, warm welcome to improv you deserve. In it we’ll explore heartfelt play for grown-ups, step-by-step.
No trying required. No need to be funny, fast or clever.
You get to be you!
My aim is you help you feel more alive, open, supported and playful after this workshop.
What improv is and why do it
Improv is the art of accepting ‘what is’ with playful, heartfelt curiosity in the here-and-now. It’s about making things up as you go along, collaboratively. It can involve movement, games, stories, dialogue, reactions, characters and plot.
Improv helps you:
- Free your creativity and imagination
- Improve communication in relationships
- Discover spontaneity and adaptability
- Deepen connections and feel supported
- Feel more confident in uncertain situations
Improv helps me navigate life’s struggles with overthinking, judgement, perfectionism, isolation, failure and mistakes - taking life too seriously.
If you need to let go, feel more alive, laugh more, or rediscover your inner child then improv is for you too.
What to expect at the workshop
Carefully led games and exercises played at your own pace, in pairs and as a group. Every activity is an invitation - you’re trusted to choose and follow what feels comfortable for you.
Expect silliness, kindness, make-believe, and profound moments of feeling moved. There’s gentle challenge too, if you’re open to learning.
You’ll also gain powerful, fundamental principles to help you get the most out of improv - principles that continue to help me navigate life’s challenges, as well as improv.
There’ll be plenty of reflection - opportunities to discuss and explore what’s coming up as you play and learn. And kind, experienced support from your host - a trained relational facilitator, embodiment coach and improviser.
Why this workshop is for you
As well as all the benefits above, you’ll enjoy a precious opportunity to feel welcomed and celebrated as the naturally creative, big-hearted, lovely messy human you are.
I believe playful curiosity and joy are your birthright as a human being. That’s the essence of improvisation.
Let me help you remember all this, and feel good about yourself while you do it.
