Improvisation for Adults with Guest Artist Reuben Macdougall Di Manno
5 week series
Monday
FLING Studio
6 - 7:15pm
MON 21, 28 OCT, 4, 11, 18 NOV

FLINGs Adult Community Engagement Programs are a welcoming space to try something new, or return to your body in movement.
Classes are facilitated by FLING's team of professional dance artists and open to all abilities, ages and levels of experience.

Join Guest Artist Reuben Macdougall Di Manno for a five-week series of improvisation classes for adults, suitable for all levels of experience.
Drawing on post-Modern methods of improvisation, participants will each week learn a different approach to dancing on the spot, in the moment that is, in the body that you have.

Through dancing and relaxed group discussion we will explore moving:

  • With Yourself
  • With Each Other
  • With Tasks
  • In Contact
  • For Performance

Wear something comfortable to move in.

*To take care of our dance floor at FLING Studio, we ask participants to dance without shoes where possible.

Class content can be adjusted with support from our teachers to suit you mobility needs.
If you have any accessibility requirements or previous injuries you would like to discuss before joining us, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Please Note: This event will go ahead with 6 enrolments to the full series. Bookings will be informed by Mon 21 Oct.

Who is Reuben?

Reuben is a dancer and emerging artist with a particular interest in improvisation. They are a company member of Yellow Wheel and one of the facilitators of On The Table at Dancehouse. Reuben earned a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance) with Distinction from Deakin University… It is the most expensive piece of paper they will ever own. Reuben spends a lot of time in youth practice and has recently been thinking deeply about attention - as performer and audience member. They are interested in how the act of live movement generation narrows and focuses attention. Reuben and the word “practice” are old foes, and they still engage in regular skirmishes. Reuben is a huge process nerd whose habitual work often ends up accidentally being about choreography or rehearsal.

FLING respectfully acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we live, dance and create. The Djiringanj people, whose custodianship has never been ceded, and continues to guide and support our connection to country today. We pay our respect to elders past, present and emerging.
