IMPULSE: A Workshop on Michael Chekhov's Psychological Gesture

Dacha Theatre presents another round of Impulse: A Workshop on the Psychological Gesture technique by Michael Chekhov. 

The course will be taught by professional choreographer and movement director, Anna Karpukhina.

Course description

A 5-day intensive to help actors stop overthinking and start acting from the body through impulse, presence and expressive movement.

If you’re an actor you probably know this feeling. The text is clear, you understand the lines but inside - nothing. You want to connect, to feel, to act honestly but the body doesn’t respond. This course shows you how to bridge that gap.

You’ll get a clear, step-by-step method for building a role through movement, using the Psychological Gesture technique by Michael Chekhov. You’ll learn how to work on a monologue or scene from the outside in - not by forcing emotion, but by activating it through action.

And you’ll leave with tools you can rely on - in auditions, rehearsals, or anytime you feel stuck.

Format

Bilingual instruction:  the course is conducted in Russian by Anna Karphukhina with consecutive translation into English by Mike Lion. The format is live speech with real-time translation during the session.

This workshop will consist of 5 sessions:

Tuition

This workshop like all Dacha Theatre events is presented with sliding-scale tuition and a PWYC option.

Full Price - $375 This is the full cost of tuition that will cover our artist fees and space rental. This is calculated at $25/hr of instruction.

Reduced Price - $175 A reduced price option calculated at $15/hr of instruction.

SALES TAX - The recently passed WA State Law Bill 5814 requires sales tax to be collected on all workshops and classes starting October 1, 2025.
