Imrov Singing With Steven Taberner
Event description
IMPROV SINGING WITH STEPHEN TABERNER
This workshop will be a chance to suggest and explore various protocols for vocal improvisation with groups of other people….and how we can sound awesome and have huge fun doing this. There are various “ways in”. These protocols are distinguished somewhat from what’s normally called circle singing by the desire to give the participants more agency and to thus more closely resemble something like a circle of improvising human beings.
Underscoring and surrounding this will be all kinds of work taking us towards an improvisational flow, and a sense of awareness of that’s happening in the room. so we’ll work with authentic voice/body sounds, blending, groove, and how sounds sit together in time and space. Ultimately we’d wish to move towards having the ability to let an improvised song reflect all kinds of moods, themes and subject matters…and to be funky, ethereal, deeply slowly groovy, or downright silly, depending on the situation.
It’s not necessary to be a confident improviser to come, but it’s best if you feel a degree of confidence in being able to hold or follow a tune fairly quickly and have a degree of groove that is somewhat groovy.
