Following on from last year's presentation, this session explores the next stage of OPAL Maryvale's engineering spares journey, highlighting how the site has adapted its spare parts strategy following a partial plant closure and significant operational change.

Gain insight into the practical initiatives implemented to optimise inventory, improve asset reliability, and strengthen data quality within SAP. The presentation will cover the work undertaken to reduce excess stock, improve purchasing practices, rationalise storerooms, and ensure critical spare parts are managed effectively in a changing operating environment.

A key focus will be the conversion of pumps from Repairable materials to Rotables within SAP. With an ageing plant and a large population of critical pumps, OPAL Maryvale recognised the need for greater asset visibility and historical tracking. By introducing serialised Rotable Management and integrating with SAP Quality Management (QM), the team is improving equipment traceability, failure analysis, spare availability, and maintenance data accuracy.

The presentation will also provide an overview of the recently completed OneSAP Project, which successfully merged OPAL's legacy Paper and Packaging SAP systems into a single platform. Managing a team of 30, the Central Workshop, Engineering Stores, fleet maintenance, SAP, master data, and business analytics, Lindsay is busy supporting the systems and technology at Opal Maryvale Mill. Specialising in business processes and software, Lindsay implemented SAP at the Maryvale site in 2018 while utilising digital technologies, including SAP, Power BI, Primavera, and Microsoft Copilot. With a Bachelor of Engineering and an MBA, over 40 years of experience across mining, energy, manufacturing, consulting, and telecommunications, Lindsay has held roles with companies such as BHP, Rio Tinto, Woodside, ExxonMobil, BlueScope Steel and more.
