Event description

Maintenance Activity Based Budgeting

A maintenance budget is one of the most underestimated parts of your asset management. It sets out the expected cost of meeting your maintenance objectives for the year. It should include the expected costs for all of the different maintenance types and how they apply to different assets or asset groups.

It is important in any Maintenance business to have a developed Maintenance Budget and then manage to that budget.

As a maintenance department it is important that you understand where your expenditure is against the budget and what actions are in place to manage it to target.

Your budget should take into consideration:

  • Broken up into Cost Centres down to asset level so that it is easy to see where your expenditure is high or low.
  • New and Removed Assets - Ins and Outs
  • Preventive and Predictive Maintenance (PM)
  • Corrective Maintenance (CM)
  • Breakdown Maintenance (BM)
  • Other groups that might book to Maintenance Budget E.g. Operations, Engineering.
  • Overheads (OH)
  • New and Removed Assets
  • Labour, Materials, Services, Tools, Transport, etc.

Visibility:

It is important that everyone has line of site to the budget and where the current expenditure is.

They also should be aware of how they contribute to expenditure and what they can do to help manage to the budget.

We will also have a few members showing their process for budget management.
