IMRt Masterclass | Optimising the Installation of Natural Ester-Filled Transformers
Event description
Transforming Safety and Sustainability in Power Installations
Discover how the right dielectric fluid can improve fire safety, environmental performance, and cost efficiency in transformer installations.
Transformer installations, in both urban and national park areas, must balance cost-effectiveness with compliance to stringent fire and environmental safety regulations. Traditional dielectric fluids can pose challenges related to fire hazards, environmental impact, and long-term maintenance. How can transformer installations enhance fire safety and environmental sustainability without increasing costs or complexity?
In this presentation, Mark and Phil will explore key considerations for selecting dielectric fluids, including fire safety, biodegradability, toxicity, and maintenance requirements. They will also examine how to reduce the installation footprint, streamline fire protection and containment systems, and improve overall sustainability.
Attendees will gain practical insights into how adopting natural ester dielectric fluids can lead to safer, more sustainable transformer installations while optimising costs and regulatory adherence

Meet Phil Reilly
Phil Reilly is a Business Development Manager at Cargill, helping drive awareness of ester dielectric fluids for transformers across Australia and New Zealand. With a background in biochemistry and experience as a research scientist, he blends technical know-how with real-world insight. Phil’s also active in several industry groups, including Standards Australia, the Electric Energy Society of Australia, and SIESN.
Meet Mark Foster
Mark Foster supports Kinghill’s Australian operations, working with Gomero SIPP’s Transformer Bund Water Management and Metrum’s Power Quality Solutions. A qualified Aircraft Ground Engineer and Electrical Fitter Mechanic, he’s worked across utilities, rail, mining, telecoms, and avionics. A career highlight? Installing the Earth Satellite Station on Lord Howe Island, bringing vital communications to the community.
