Description

IN BETWEEN THINGS

A series of shows about unexpected encounter.

In Between Things is a site-responsive performance series integrating contemporary dance, live music, participatory installation, and communal gathering created by Ishaan Goel & Sarah Yasmine Marazzi-Sassoon.

Across three distinct spaces in New York City, audiences move between participation and observation—encountering dance, live music, interactive installation, and one another in environments shaped by the architecture and moods of each venue.

Each showing is a slightly different experience. Come to one, or follow the project across all three.

01 — OPENING CEREMONY

Sunday, September 27 · 6:00 PM
Brooklyn Peace Center · Bed-Stuy
23 Marcus Garvey Blvd, Brooklyn

Move together with the audience through the different floors of Brooklyn Peace Center. Along the way, take part in a sequence of group rituals while encountering contemporary dance and live music throughout the building.

The first show is staged as a ceremony: collective, sequential, and sacred.

02 — MIDDLE GROUND

Wednesday, October 7 · 7:00 PM
Moonzescope · West Village
178 Bleecker Street, New York

Wander and explore the space on your own terms. Dance and live music unfold around you, while unexpected interactions, installations, and encounters emerge throughout the corridors and corners of this winding pop-up space.

Unlike the Opening Ceremony, there is no single path to follow. Choose where to go, what to notice, and how long to linger.

03 — CLOSING BALL

Saturday, October 17 · 7:30 PM
Box of Moonlight · Bushwick
17 Saratoga Ave, Brooklyn

Celebrate the closing of In Between Things with a masquerade party just in time for Halloween. Performances emerge throughout the evening from unsuspecting corners all while faces remain hidden until the end of the night.

Part performance, part party, Ends the series through mystery and celebration just in time for Halloween.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

No two showings are alike.

Each is a complete experience on its own, so attend the one that draws you—or follow the project across all three to see how it transforms.

The project explores the connections with others, ourselves, and our surroundings that form unexpectedly: through shared rituals, repeated encounters, and the environments in which we find ourselves.

Rather than treating performance as separate from its context, we approach the entire gathering as the work.

Together, the three iterations form an evolving study of intimacy, chance encounter, and the relationships that emerge around a shared experience.
