Description

We have a very special event to close the year.

WIFT NZ is delighted to welcome Oscar and BAFTA-winning costume designer Kate Hawley.

This year, Kate has won the following awards for her contribution to Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein (2025)

  • Academy Award for Best Achievement in Costume Design

  • BAFTA for Best Costume Design

  • Critics Choice for Best Costume Design

  • Costume Designers Guild Awards for Excellence in Period Film

  • Plus 19 other awards around the globe!

She also received multiple nominations for Best Costume for Lord Of The Rings: Rings of Power (2022) and Crimson Peak (2015).

To top it all off, she also received the inaugural Costume Designer of the Year Award from the British Fashion Council.

Hawley has been praised for her "...meticulous construction, narrative sensitivity and ability to elevate character through custom-built textiles and silhouettes. ...she has built an international career across film, opera, theatre and ballet. Her credits span Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim to Suicide Squad, Edge of Tomorrow and The Hobbit. Her work has previously earned an Emmy nomination, a Costume Designers Guild Award and Saturn and Empire award" - (Fashion United UK)

Kate’s body of work speaks for itself. She’s another fantastic story of a career that started at home in Aotearoa and went global,

We’ll pick her brain (not in a Frankenstein way) about her career, her craft, and what it takes to build a whole world out of fabric, dye and attention to detail. Moderated by Robin Laing.
