In Conversation with Miriam Baadjo
Event description
Miriam Baadjo is a Kukatja artist whose work has been celebrated both nationally and internationally. Hailing from a family of art pioneers, Miriam grounds her diverse practice - spanning glass, printmaking, and painting - in her Tjukurpa, taught to her by her Uncle Wimmitji Tjapangarti. Presented in partnership with Warlayirti Artists, Luurn, the Kingfisher is Miriam's first solo exhibition, featuring 16 exquisite paintings created over several years as Miriam engaged in multiple Return to Country trips to reconnect with her family's ancestral homelands.
Please join us to celebrate the opening of Luurn, the Kingfisher on Saturday 21st June from 12 - 2pm with an In Conversation with Miriam Baadjo. Facilitated by Leila Gurruwiwi and accompanied by senior Warlayirti artist Imelda Yunkenbarri Gugaman, this talk will explore the ways in which Miriam's incredible practice weaves together ancestral stories, contemporary life, and personal memory. It will also reflect on Miriam's recent commission for the 2024 Mumbai Biennale Dreams in Her Scapes, a collaborative mural project exploring traditions from two First Nations cultures in Australia and India.
