Event description

Learn all about global developments and the Young Australians in International Affairs (YAIA) Fellowship Program from the Fellows themselves!

For Part One of the In Conversation with the Fellows events, attendees will get to hear from the following Fellows:

  • Africa Fellow - Akua Nsiah
  • Middle East Fellow - Olivia Suthers
  • Latin America Fellow - Alexandra Black
  • United States Fellow - Catherine Maltman

Each Fellow will speak about their experiences in the program, and key regional developments pertaining to their specialty area. These presentations will be followed by an open Q&A session with attendees. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone wanting to learn more about the above regions – particularly those that are interested in applying for our biannual Fellowship Program. For those that are most interested in our other Fellowship areas, please check out our In Conversation with the Fellows Parts Two and Three events.

What is the Fellowship Program?

Our Fellowship Program was launched 10 years ago in January 2015, aimed at promoting the voices of young people in Australia’s foreign policy. The program is designed to attract young Australians, especially those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, who are skilled in research and analysis, have a desire to learn more about issues in international affairs, and have a demonstrated interest in the Fellowship area to which they apply. Over 6 months, Fellows research and contribute articles to be published online by Young Australians in International Affairs on our blog, Insights.

Applications for our July-December 2025 round will open soon! Learn more at our website.
