We are excited to have Romayne Perera, a first-generation migrant who will share her story for our September session!

A little bit about Romayne

Sri Lankan born, I migrated to Australia with my family at the age of four. I “fell” into Marketing while I was completing my undergraduate degree in Media & Communications. What I really wanted to be when I “grew up” was a journalist, because I am a writer at heart.

I came around to Marketing as a career option, recognising the opportunity to immerse oneself in business operations. I purposefully switched to advertising in my early thirties to ensure I was in a creative space to be able to rediscover my own creativity.

Over my career, I’ve worked with complex organisations such as Australia Post and Terry White Chemmart and agencies including DDB and Thinkerbell. I’ve overseen projects for Bupa, Catch, 7-Eleven, AAMI and Officeworks. I’m thorough, motivated and highly experienced at what I do, but a series of relatively recent events and interactions have forced me out of the bubble of assimilation I have been floating around in.

I’ve come to recognise a critical need for more emotional generosity in the workplace; to foster a sense of belonging, to ensure all individuals feel invited and invested in outcomes and outputs for better representation and more responsible communication.

Event Flow:

• We'll kick off with a warm welcome from our facilitator, followed by a quick round of 2-minute introductions from all participants.

• Our guest speaker will then share their professional journey in a 15–20-minute talk—a great moment to listen, reflect, and note any questions.

• A 30-minute interactive Q&A will follow, where you can ask all your burning questions and gain valuable insights.

We encourage you to turn your cameras on to create a more dynamic and engaging conversation! The session will take place on Zoom, so make sure you have a stable internet connection and a quiet space.
