About the Event
What does it mean to write in Spanish within an English-dominant literary landscape? How do Spanish-speaking writers connect with and respond to Australian literary traditions? What words do they choose when writing across experiences of displacement and translation?
In Other Words offers a unique opportunity for both Spanish and non-Spanish speakers to engage on equal terms. It celebrates the coexistence of languages, and the creative tensions between them, as a reflection of everyday life in multicultural Australia. By challenging the central role of English, the festival opens up new, speculative ways of thinking, writing, and living.
