    Event description

    We have workshops on the following 4 topics:S

    Workshop 1 Supporting Communication and Language Skills

    Workshop 2 - Practical skills and knowledge to support neurodivergent students with a focus on ADHD, autism, and language delay

    Workshop 3 - Early communication / literacy workshop - for those working with students at or below level 1 of the curriculum

    Workshop 4 - Literacy and executive function workshop for those working at intermediate & secondary level - by request


    Dates:  

    • Friday 10 May 2024 - workshop 1
    • Thursday 13 June 2024 - workshop 2
    • Friday 2 Aug 2024 - workshop 3
    • Monday 19 Aug 2024 - workshop 4

    Location:

    * Plimmerton ( approximately 30 minutes from Wellington, Hut Valley, and Kāpiti, and driving distance to Palmerston North, rides from Plimmerton train station may be arranged)

    Other locations- we are able to run this workshop by request for groups of 4+ in Wellington and 7+ outside of Wellington

    Price: Workshops in Wellington are $300 (plus GST) per person and in other regions $425 (plus GST) per person.  

    Listed below each workshops are webinars that are covered in the workshops - plus in-person kōrero. The workshops may not go into as much depth into each topic as the webinars, but most people would likely either choose to do a workshop or a combinations of webinars. You can take any of these courses - there is no need to take them in order.

    Workshop 1 - Supporting student’s communication and language skills

    Date: Friday 10 May, 10:30-3:00 pm

    • Developing language in everyday moments
    • Social and communication underpinnings to behaviour
    • Anxiety and communication
    • What comes before words? How to support communication development for students who aren’t yet talking
    • Developing language in everyday moments
    • Autism and language development – so my student repeats scripts, what does this mean and what should I do?
    • AAC 101 – how to support language development for students with minimal vocal speech
    • AAC – intermediate – so my student has a communication device/system, now what?

    Workshop 2: Practical skills and knowledge to support neurodivergent students with a focus on ADHD, autism, and language delay 

    Date: Friday 13 June 2024, 10:00-3:00

      • Supporting social connections with students who find playing with peers, group work, and interacting with peers tricky
      • Anxiety and communication
      • What comes before words? How to support communication development for students who aren’t yet talking
      • Autism and language development – so my student repeats scripts, what does this mean and what should I do?
      • Neurodiversity – Intermediate level – including autism, ADHD, and language delays
      • AAC 101 – how to support language development for students with minimal vocal speech
      • AAC – intermediate – so my student has a communication device/system, now what?
      • Visual supports on the fly – how to support our students understanding by making our language more visual

        • Comprehensive Literacy for older students who do not yet know most of their letters, most of the time

        Workshop 4 - Literacy and executive function workshop specifically for those working at intermediate & secondary level
