This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

In 2019 as an outcome of the Queer Displacements conference we released the Canberra Statement on access to safety and justice for LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum, refugees and others forcibly displaced.

Canberra Statement was designed to be a global solidarity tool to bring attention to the rights and issues of LGBTIQ+ people who have been forcibly displaced. It put forward a number of actions that are needed to achieve safety and justice for these communities.

This is the only document of its kind in the world to bring the rights of LGBTIQ+ forcibly displaced people to the front and centre.

Since then 407 stakeholders have affirmed the Canberra Statement, among which 81 organisations from 9 countries. A year on, we’d like to take stock and discuss how we are practicing solidarity with LGBTIQ+ refugees.

In this interactive workshop we will highlight best practices of implementing Canberra Statement and what challenges still remain. We will be also discussing what it means to truly act in solidarity with LGBTIQ+ forcibly displaced people. The workshop is a space to share the learnings as well as show your commitment and solidarity with LGBTIQ+ forcibly displaced people. The workshop is designed for your to actively participate.

This workshop is a part of the Practicing solidarity with LGBTIQ+ forcibly displaced people series.

Please limit your registration to one person per organisation.

Note: this is a ticketed event as we believe that it is essential to support LGBTIQ+ refugee-led work. If you wish to participate but cannot afford it, please email admin@fdpn.org.au We want to accomodate everyone who is willing to work for better future of LGBTIQ+ people who've experienced forced displacement.
