Johnny Mitrevski, CTO of Unicorn - Scalapay
Johnny Mitrevski is Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Scalapay.
Mitrevski is a technology pioneer and proud member of the Wollongong and Sydney start-up community. A passionate people leader, Mitrevski is experienced in delivering high performance software applications for leading digital brands, telecommunications, finance and global airline operators.
Flipping traditional banking on its head, Scalapay is an Australian-based scale-up offering buy now, pay later (BNPL) services for e-commerce in Europe. After cementing itself as a market leader in Italy, Scalapay has now set its sights on continued expansion following a successful seed funding round in early 2021 which raised $US48 million.
A bit about Scalapay
Scalapay is a scale-up offering buy now, pay later (BNPL) to ecommerce merchants across Europe. It is the only BNPL that has the ability to support enterprise merchants across a variety of countries, in Scalapay’s case, the whole of the Eurozone.
Co-founded in 2019 by Simone Mancini and Johnny Mitrevski, Scalapay enables customers to pay off purchases in three interest free instalments while providing peace of mind to merchants. Scalapay looks after the burden of the ‘back office’: taking away the risks of fraud or chargebacks and allowing them to get back to doing what they love most.
Simone and Johnny’s experience working in Australian financial services and a trip to Italy sparked the idea behind launching Scalapay. While BNPL was on the rise in Australia, it was nowhere to be seen in the Italian market – leading the pair to act quickly and take a big leap into the world of international ecommerce.
With a growing presence in Italy, Spain, Germany and France, Scalapay is now used by over 2000 merchants and is a partner of Raisin Bank. Scalapay is proud to be Italy’s market leading BNPL service with customers including major sports store Decathlon and cosmetics company KIKO MILANO.
Scalapay's core engineering operates in Australia due the wealth of talent available in the local digital eco-system. As the company grows, and operates in more locations across the world, having a central base where the local skill-set is world class is integral to its successful expansion.
