Different by Design: Embracing neurodiversity and disability as part of the human experience
In this Founders Lecture, Dr Louise Gosbell will explore what it is like to live with neurodiversity and disability, as well as what it looks like when communities embrace people with neurodiversity and disability. The lecture will seek to unpack how our experience of neurodiversity and disability informs our understanding of what it means to be human and, simultaneously, how our understanding of one another as divine image bearers informs our attitudes and beliefs about neurodiversity and disability.
Biography: Dr Louise Gosbell is a researcher, writer and speaker with a focus on disability theology and in-church practice. She is currently the Research Manager at the Australian University of Theology and teaches subjects on disability and neurodivergence within the colleges of the Australian University of Theology consortium. Louise spent 15 years as the Sydney Co-ordinator for CBM Australia’s Luke 14 Inclusive Churches program and continues to train churches and Christian organisations in disability inclusion. She also coordinated the development of a set of accessibility guidelines for Sydney Anglican churches. Louise’s research and advocacy is shaped by her personal experience of disability.
