Join us for a practical and engaging day of professional development focused on inclusive education, hosted at the Whyalla Campus by Associate Professor Joanna Anderson and Dr Tom Porta. The event program is designed to support school teachers in building confidence and capability when working with diverse learners in the classroom.

The day will explore core themes including:

  • Understanding Neurodiversity

  • Supporting Behaviour in Diverse Classrooms

  • Strategies for Inclusive Learning Environments

You’ll also have the chance to connect with peers during networking opportunities and participate in hands-on, evidence-informed sessions aimed at supporting inclusive practice.

About the presenters:
With over 20 years of experience as a classroom teacher and school leader in Australia and New Zealand, Associate Professor Anderson is internationally recognised for her expertise in inclusive education and leadership. Her research explores system and school leadership, innovative learning environments, educational philosophy, and inclusion in the Pacific.

Dr Tom Porta is an experienced educator and researcher with over a decade of teaching in primary and secondary schools, and four years in tertiary education. His expertise spans inclusive education, numeracy, learning difficulties, and supporting students with high support needs. His research focuses on differentiated instruction in senior-secondary settings and improving curriculum frameworks. Dr Porta is passionate about empowering educators through targeted professional development to foster inclusive and effective teaching practices.

If you are interested in attending, we have limited funding available to support Relief Teaching, Travel Bursaries, or both. We encourage you to book early, as support will be allocated in the order registrations are received. If you are interested in applying for one or both of the funding supports available, please outline this by selecting the appropriate ticket type when registering and our team will get in touch to best support your needs.

To finish the day, teachers are welcome to join an optional Whyalla Campus Experience from 2:30pm to 3:15pm, providing an opportunity to explore the facilities and learn more about regional education offerings.
