Event description

Post Colonial Panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Adrian Tan (artist-curator and researcher)

Artists: Nazerul Ben-Dzulkefli, Desmond Mah, Ilona McGuire, Ezzam Rahman, Alya Rahmat, Brian Robinson, Tyrown Waigana

Moderated by Dr. Adrian Tan, this panel brings together artists Nazerul Ben-Dzulkefli, Desmond Mah, Ilona McGuire, Ezzam Rahman, Alya Rahmat, Brian Robinson and Tyrown Waigana to discuss Indelible Marks, an international exhibition marking Singapore’s 60th year of independence (Art Seasons Gallery, Singapore, 19 Sept - 20 Oct 2025). Co-organised by Tyrown Waigana (Indigenous Australian), Desmond Mah (Singaporean Australian) and Nazerul Ben-Dzulkefli (Singaporean Australian), the project examines the impact of British colonialism on cultural identity, memory and national narratives in both Singapore and Australia. Through this dialogue, the panel explores how artistic collaboration can challenge dominant colonial histories, amplify silenced voices and open space for cross-cultural reflection and resistance.

As Singapore commemorates six decades of independence in 2025, the participating artists, five from Australia including First Nations voices and two from Singapore, offer intersecting perspectives on colonial legacies that continue to shape contemporary life. Their work interrogates monuments, myths and inherited national memory while asserting alternative ways of seeing. This discussion invites audiences to consider how history is remembered or forgotten, and how collective creative practices can reimagine futures shaped by a shared yet uneven colonial past.

Please rsvp here to attend the panel discussion. Please bear in mind that the exhibition opens on Fri 19 Sept 2025, 6pm at Art Seasons Gallery and this panel discussion takes place at Comma Space, Sat, 2.30 pm, 20 Sept 2025. Two different venues. Thanks.
