Event description

Abstract

India is currently the world’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, while consistently maintaining an average economic growth rate exceeding 6% over the past 25 years. Despite the principle of Common But Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC), India—the world’s most populous nation—has taken a pioneering role in transitioning toward a clean energy-driven economy.

This presentation evaluates the extent to which India’s energy transition supports this claim by examining both the progress and challenges associated with its 2030 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). A comprehensive perspective will be adopted, encompassing the entire Indian energy system, including both primary and secondary energy sectors. Furthermore, the presentation will explore India's ambitions in domestic production of clean energy technologies and low-carbon energy carriers, alongside developments in fertilisers, energy storage systems, and sustainable mobility technologies.
