    Event description

Indian Motorcycle World Muster World-Wide Ride.

Inviting brothers and sisters from around the world to ride as one for organ and tissue donation

Kick your stands up on Saturday 5th October or Sunday 6th October 2024 and join us for the inaugural world-wide Indian Motorcycle Muster Ride and help us promote organ and tissue donation and raise funds to support research into child heart disease.

Hello fellow Indian owner/riders, we are Kim and Allan Turner from Shepparton Australia, and we ride a 2015 Indian Vintage Chief. We are also the founders of Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation, started in memory of our beloved daughter, Zaidee, who died suddenly in December 2004 at age seven from a brain aneurism.

Zaidee went on to become an organ and tissue donor, saving and improving the lives of seven others. As a result of this experience, I have spent the past 19 years working to promote organ and tissue donation and raising funds to support research into child heart disease in Australia.

I am now calling on all Indian Motorcycles owners to rev up your engines and make some noise in support of organ and tissue donation across the globe. Join us on either day, as an individual or group ride for whatever distance you want.

There is no cost to be participate, but if you can, we invite you to make a donation. Proceeds from the event will be split between Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) located in Melbourne, Australia.

    Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation

We are an Australian not-for-profit located in Shepparton in Victoria, Australia. The role of the Foundation is to inspire discussion nationally and internationally, to help increase the donation rates through sport, school and community education programs. We hold numerous events to raise awareness and funds to support these initiatives and help fund research.

    Murdoch Children’s Research Institute

Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) is Australia’s largest child health research organisation and is ranked globally among the top three for research quality and impact. With over 1,800 researchers working across more than 150 diseases and conditions. MCRI’s purpose is to give all children the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilled life.

Heart disease is a major health issue for children around the world, affecting up to one in 100 live births. Childhood heart disease includes congenital heart defects that affect the structure of the heart and disorders of the heart muscle, both of which affect the heart’s ability to pump efficiently. In the most severe cases, these conditions can progress to heart failure, with the only option for patients in end stage heart failure being heart transplantation.

The Heart Regeneration Lab at MCRI aims to transform childhood heart disease treatment through their world leading cardiac stem cell program by (i) investigating genetic causes of childhood heart disease in patients, (ii) developing drugs that regenerate heart tissue, and (iii) creating bioengineered heart tissue to treat heart failure in children.

Through their international collaborations, the Heart Regeneration Lab’s research has the potential to improve the lives of individuals with heart disease across the globe. 50% of funds raised through the event will be used to support the vital research being carried out by MCRI’s Heart Regeneration Lab into understanding the causes of childhood heart disease and developing novel therapies for patients.

    How can you help?

    • - Participate in the ride and help shine a light on organ and tissue donation in your own community.
    • - Invite fellow rides to join.
    • - Make a donation if you can. Regardless of the amount, it all makes a difference.
    • - Become a Road Captain and invite IMRG groups around the world to take part.  Contact me at allan@zaidee.org for more information.

    MCRI’s Heart Regeneration Lab

Heart disease is the leading cause of death and disability in children, affecting up to 1 in 100 live births. Childhood heart disease includes congenital heart defects that affect the structure of the heart, as well as cardiomyopathies of the heart muscle, both of which affect the heart’s ability to pump efficiently. In the most severe cases, these conditions can lead to heart failure, which is a life-threatening condition where the diseased heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the needs of the body.

Current therapies for heart failure in children do not target the root cause of disease and only offer symptomatic relief. Therefore, the only option for patients in end stage heart failure is heart transplantation. Unfortunately, heart transplantation has limitations including low donor tissue availability, poor medium-to-long term survival rates, lifelong immunosuppression requiring frequent hospitalization, as well as poor quality of life for transplanted patients.

The Heart Regeneration Lab, led by Professor Enzo Porrello, aims to transform the treatment of childhood heart disease using stem cell technologies. The lab is harnessing the power of pluripotent stem cells to create human models of disease as a platform for therapeutic development. Their research pipeline spans the full spectrum from the operating theatre to the single cell, working with a broad team of clinicians, scientists, bioengineers, and patients.

The team are currently generating heart organoids from patient stem cells, which can investigate genetic causes of childhood heart disease in patients, as well as to screen for drugs that regenerate heart tissue. Finally, they are also harnessing the regenerative potential of stem cells to create bioengineered heart tissue to treat heart failure in children.
