Indian Sitar Workshop with Soumitra Thakur

Touring Indian musician, Soumitra Thakur, will present a special Indian sitar workshop in the intimate ‘Round Room’ at the Hamilton Hill Memorial Hall on Saturday 16 November, 11am-1.00pm.
Soumitra will introduce participants to the rich musical history of the sitar and traditional Hindustani classical music while demonstrating the concepts of Ragas and Talas.
Soumitra Thakur began playing sitar at an early age under the training of his uncle Shri Prashanta Thakur, who belongs to the rich heritage of Bishnupur Gharana. He has since won numerous awards for his performances and is now studying under celebrated sitar maestro Pt. Kushal Das of the Maihar Gharana. He completed his MA in Music from the University of Delhi and is currently a Research Scholar in Music, delivering sitar workshops and lecture demonstrations in India.
