Description

This interactive studio workshop invites educators to reflect on their teaching practices and explore meaningful ways to incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and relating. Our hope is for participants to create and develop plans, materials, and strategies that facilitate more inclusive and respectful learning environments. 

Participants will gather for an opening circle and orient to the goals and collective expectations of the studio workshop. The following sessions will be participant driven and will use an interactive studio space to create, develop, and practice ideas. Between sessions, participants will be asked to asynchronously develop their work using a combination of self-guided and structured activities. We will end this workshop by sharing and celebrating our work and by having a closing circle. 

Participants will be expected to actively participate in all sessions, provide authentic feedback to one another, and develop their own practice. 

This workshop qualifies as an elective for the Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (CUTL) for those participants who are interested in completing the certificate. Contact the facilitator for details on how to earn credit.​ 

Learning Outcomes 

1. ​​Reflect on one’s own teaching and learning strategies as they relate to Indigenization, decolonization, and reconciliation 

2. Identify areas for development and explore relevant ideas for personal growth as it relates to Indigenous ways of knowing. 

3. Through collaboration with peers and facilitators, create and develop plans, materials, and strategies that reflect appropriate pedagogical practices. 

4. Practice teaching and learning strategies to build confidence and skills in incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing. 

5. Celebrate individual and collective successes by offering appreciation, recognition, and engaging in constructive critique.
