Indigenous Dreaming: Everything about ghavai lala

Join Pacific Powered Peoples for our very first Indigenous Dreaming workshop! This will be an afternoon of dance, music, and craft as the Solomon Island Auckland Wantok Association (SIAWA) teaches us everything about ghavai lala!

Ghavai meaning dance and Lala is the name of the type of dance done in Guadalcanal. So come along to learn a women's dance from the Island of Guadalcanal or to make decorations used during these beautiful performances.

Pacific Powered Peoples 'Indigenous Dreaming' series are monthly table talks about the energy system here in Aotearoa hosted by different Pacific community leaders. Every session begins sharing cultural stories and practices to show us what collective dreaming can look like for us as Pacific Peoples in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Then, we go into community storytelling. Participants are broken up in smaller groups to keep crafting, eating, and sharing stories about our everyday life in Aotearoa to build a movement empowering Pacific energy wellbeing.

This is a free event with food and resources provided. Just come as yourself!
