Event description

Join the Humans For Good community for a one-hour tour of Greenspace – an indoor, community vertical farm at the heart of the Sydney CBD.

We will get to know what indoor vertical farms are, how they are better for the planet and our communities, what the future of this innovative food system looks like, and how we can do urban farming at home and in our workplaces.

Our tour guide and host will be Nick, who has worked with Greenspace for over three years – growing his passion for food, nutrition and sustainability. He started as a farmer growing produce for Greenspace customers, but his love for the business has led him to join the team full time. He will be sharing his broad experience and knowledge of Greenspace, along with its incredible story and mission.

Following the tour, we will head to Kyiv Social in Chippendale for dinner – a social enterprise restaurant that for every meal purchased, two meals are donated (one to someone in need in Sydney and one to someone in Ukraine).

If you can only join us for the tour and not for dinner, not a problem – but you're all invited to join us for both!

Who is this event for?

This will be a small event for 20 members of the extended Humans For Good community. It is for anyone who is –

  • Curious and keen to learn more about urban farming, sustainability and green innovations in Australia, and/or

  • Interested in housing a micro-farm in their building (e.g. an apartment building, office, restaurant, or hotel)

Why join us?

Your $15 ticket will include the following:

  • Good causes: We will have a one-hour Q&A with the Greenspace team and a tour of their indoor vertical farm. We'll be talking about the future of urban farming and how it can make local produce both sustainable and accessible

  • Good humans: Get to know a community of likeminded people who share your values and care about our planet

  • Good food: An optional dinner at Kyiv Social following the tour. Connect around a meal that has been prepared by chefs who are from marginalised backgrounds, and that funds meals for people who need them in Sydney and in Ukraine. If you join us for dinner, it would cost $39pp for the set menu and these meals that are donated 🙂

A few more details

📍 Please meet at Hay Street Market, Haymarket (enter this food court into Google maps). Nick will meet us here and bring us to the urban farm, which is inside. Any issues with finding us on the night, give Georgia a call on 0422 219 375

🥘 As we have a large group of people, we will be doing the set menu option at Kyiv Social! This is $39pp, which includes a starter (potato dumplings), a main (chicken or eggplant kyiv, a salad and mash), and two meals that will be donated to someone in need in Sydney and in Ukraine

🎟️  We have limited spots, so please grab your ticket asap to avoid missing out! For other online and offline events around the Australian social impact ecosystem, make sure to check out our new events calendar

About Humans For Good

We are a community for Aussies who want to turn their good intentions into impact, and do their part to make the world a better place. It’s really easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless when confronted with big global issues. So many of us care, but don’t know where or how to start taking action. The Humans For Good mission is to make it a little easier to make a difference. We do this by connecting us all with the conversations, connections and opportunities that we need to have a positive impact across a wide range of causes – at home, at work, and in our communities. Learn more and join our Slack community here, or give us a follow on Instagram for future events and updates.

About our partners – Greenspace and Glimpse

Greenspace is disrupting the traditional food production and distribution system with a profound new interconnected vertical farming model. This model transforms under-utilised spaces within cities, into commercial vertical farms that they like to call “Macrofarms”. These large sustainable farms grow nutritious produce that is distributed to the local community through a network of smaller client-facing hydroponic units, called “Microfarms”. These Microfarms are placed in office spaces, restaurants, hotels, and retail spaces, transforming these locations with living produce, which enhances location aesthetic and improves customer wellness.

The Greenspace vision is to make local produce both sustainable and accessible while positively changing the distribution supply chain to reduce carbon emissions and promote wellness through nutrient-rich food sources. They want to revolutionise the agricultural industry – building a farming system that benefits the local community, as well as improving the environment. On average, Greenspace produce travels less than 2km from farm-to-table – a significant improvement over other Australian fresh produce, which can cover an excessive amount of kms before reaching your plate. Given that food transport emissions contribute to nearly half of the direct emissions from road vehicles, Greenspace prioritises considering our carbon footprint to assist in combating this head on. It is time to create a food system that works not only with human nature, but nature itself.

This event is also organised in partnership with Glimpse, where you can find inspirational sustainability experiences. From indoor vertical farm tours, bush walks with First Nations guides, to dinners at urban aquaponics farms, there's one-of-a-kind experiences where you can get a glimpse of the possibilities of a greener future.
