Industry in Action 2026 (Perth)
Behind the scenes Perth tourism and hospitality experience
Building on the success of last year’s “Serving Up Fremantle”, this full-day Professional Learning experience is designed specifically for VETDSS teachers delivering SIT20122 Certificate II in Tourism and SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality.
The day combines behind-the-scenes industry experiences, practical workshops, networking and direct engagement with tourism and hospitality professionals. Starting at Optus Stadium, teachers will explore venue operations, event spaces, hospitality services and the visitor experience before taking part in a guided walking tour across Perth, discovering how local stories, landmarks, culture and tourism experiences are brought to life.
The program continues with a hands-on cocktail masterclass at Lot 20, followed by a guided walk through Perth’s vibrant urban and hospitality precincts to Baha, where lunch will be accompanied by behind-the-scenes insights from venue staff and management.
The afternoon moves to The Hotel School Perth, providing an opportunity to explore student pathways, industry expectations and career opportunities across tourism and hospitality. Teachers will also participate in two practical Professional Learning workshops facilitated by Vivi Fernandez, exploring travel motivations, classroom activities, career pathways and interactive approaches that can be taken directly back into the VET classroom.
This event provides a valuable opportunity to refresh industry currency, experience contemporary tourism and hospitality operations firsthand, connect with industry professionals and fellow VET teachers, and gather practical ideas to enhance classroom delivery.
