Wearable Art and Fashion Incubator Program EOI
Wyndham Arts and Culture is partnering with Wunder Gym to present the Tapestry of Culture Wearable Art & Fashion Incubator program. The program will support 20 creatives to develop and show a wearable artwork as part of the the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2025 Independent Programme.
The program runs over 15 weeks from Sunday 17 November 2024 until Sunday 8 March 2025. Participants will experience a packed program learning from some of Melbourne fashion’s greats including presentations from fashion designers Collective Closets, Sister Duo, Fatuma and Laurinda Ndenzako, Remuse, Tamara Leacock, as well as a presentation from Melbourne Fashion Festival Program Director, Sai-Wai Foo.
The Tapestry of Culture Wearable Art & Fashion Incubator program is designed to showcase the beauty and significance of clothing across diverse cultures. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their unique styles and narratives woven into every garment.
We are inviting artists with a broad range of experience in different mediums and methodologies to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). Twenty successful artists will be selected by an industry panel to participate in the 15-week program.
This program continues to foster cultural sensitivity and respectful representation and build on journeys of exploration, appreciation, and the celebration of cultural diversity through the universal language of fashion.
Participation is free and includes a materials stipend to each artist to contribute to material costs. Participants are required to commit to the entire programs' activities.
The applications be assessed on:
- Demonstrated experience in making wearable art/fashion.
- Demonstration of how the individuals practice will benefit from the program.
- Commitment to entire program activities.
- Demonstration of living, working, or having a strong connection to Wyndham area.
- Articulation of creative ambitions and vision.
